Baltimore Seafood and Wooden Boat Festival

In Association with Guinness

May 27th, 28th and 29th 2005  
The annual Sea Food Festival takes place on the last full weekend of May each year. There are a variety of events during the weekend, which include Music, Song & Irish Dancing in the square, as well as music in the bars during the weekend. 

Programme:

Friday 26th May:

 8.00 PM                      Mussel Eating Competition
The mussel eating Competition starts off the festival on Friday night  when the local "gourmets" will be defending their reputation against all commers.

8.30 PM                      Music in the Square with

8.30 PM                      Barbecue at The Algiers Inn

9.00 PM                      Official Opening  

Saturday 27th May:

 10.00 AM                    Wooden Boat Registration

10.00 AM                    Start of “The Sikaflex Challenge” 8 hours to build a boat out of the materials supplied.

12.00 PM                    Rowing Race for Lobster and Bantry Long Boats

1.00 PM                      Rafting up of Boats in Harbour

3.00 PM                      Wooden Boat Harbour Race

3.00 PM                      Music and Irish Dancing in Square

6.00 – 6.30 PM            Last half hour of the Boat Building

6.30 PM                      Song on the Square

9.00 PM                      Music in the Square with “ Downtown Crossing”

 Sunday 28th May:

 11.30 AM                    Wooden Boat Handling Event

12.00 PM                    Food Fair on The Pier. The Food Fair  takes place in the Festival Tent from 12 - 6 on Sunday with many interesting stalls as well as a fish bar-b-q. Up to forty Exhibitors from ‘Fuchsia’
‘Slow  Food’,
and many more. Selling the Best from
West Cork Smoked and Fresh Fish, Mussels, Crab, Oysters, Prawns, Handmade Cheeses and Home Baking are just a Taste of what’s on offer!

1.00 PM                      Sikaflex Challenge – Rowing Race followed by Sailing Race

2.00 PM                      Music in The Square

2.00 PM                      ‘Kids Crab Fishing Competition’ Lifejackets a must..!

2.00 PM                      Entertainment for Children – Clowns, Face Painting, Mickey Mouse,                                         Goofy and much more – Boat trips in the Harbour Courtesy of                                                  ‘Aquaventures’.

2.30 PM                      Baltimore Harbour Race                                                            

4.30 PM                      Wooden Boat Parade of Sail’ Not to be Missed

6.00 PM                      Prize Giving in the Square

 Free ‘Plate of Shellfish’ with each GUINNESS product purchased in all Bars throughout weekend

The main sponsors of the Festival are GUINNESS and anybody buying one of their products in one of the bars during the weekend will get a free plate of seafood; the Baltimore 2000 Committee would like to thank GUINNESS for their support and assistance without which it would be very difficult to run such an event. They would also like to thank those providing food stalls for the Food Fair, and all those helping with the organisation of the weekend- The Committee would like to express their appreciation to Ann Minihane & Eddie Cassidy of the Examiner & Jackie Keogh of the Southem Star for their continued support for the event. Many thanks also to Union Hall Fishermen's Company Ltd, for providing the excellent shellfish.
