Baltimore's Heritage
The area around Baltimore and the Islands was settled by Celts
almost 2000 years ago. The history of this area of West Cork is the story
of its people, particularly the dominant O'Driscoll Clan.
It is a maritime history, of raids and pirates and sailing
to battle; it is the story of an English settlement which
moved inland to the relative safety of Skibbereen following
the Sack of Baltimore; it is the story of boatbuilding and
fishing and lifeboats.
